Beam has no file storage and no upload endpoint. When you send something, it travels directly from your device to the other one — over your own Wi-Fi network, as a pattern of light from one screen to another camera, or as sound between a speaker and a microphone. The file never reaches a server we run, so we cannot read it, keep it, hand it over, or lose it in a breach.
There is nothing to delete afterwards, because there was never a copy anywhere but on your own two devices.
Beam does not ask for an email address, a phone number or a name, and there is nothing to log in to. We do not know who you are.
Some modes need your camera (to read a pairing code or a QR stream) or your microphone (to hear an incoming transfer). Your browser will ask permission first, and the audio and video are processed entirely on your device to look for codes or data. Nothing from your camera or microphone is recorded, stored or transmitted anywhere.
Loading this page is an ordinary web request, and our server keeps standard web logs — the IP address, the page requested, the time, and the browser's user-agent string — which are used to keep the service running and secure. These logs describe visits to the website. They contain nothing about what you transferred, because the transfer does not go through the server.
Beam is free and is paid for by one clearly-labelled sponsored link and by cross-promotion banners for our own other sites. The sponsored link is provided by an external advertising network, and following it takes you to a third-party site with its own privacy practices, which we do not control. We do not share anything with advertisers, because we have nothing about you to share.
If you install Beam to your home screen, the page files are stored on your device so it works with no internet connection. That storage is your browser's, stays on your device, and holds only the app itself — never your transfers.
